Let's Talk About Sex

          Sex is a two-way street, so you need to be comfortable having open, honest, and ongoing conversations about sex with your partner. The first step to sex should be talking.

EXERCISE - Sex-Talk Checklist

Answer YES or NO to the following questions

Relationship Dynamics

1) Do you sincerely trust and respect your partner?  Y___  N___

2) Does your partner sincerely trust and respect you?  Y___  N___

3) Do you and your partner feel comfortable talking openly and honestly about your feelings and thoughts? Y___  N___

Expectations

1) Have you and your partner talked about your expectations for your first time?  Y___  N___

2) Have you and your partner talked about what you're each hoping for during sex (e.g., romance, getting it over with, etc.)?  Y___  N___

3) Have you and your partner talked about what you're each hoping for after sex (e.g., an exclusive relationship, regular sex, etc.)?  Y___  N___

4) Have you and your partner talked about what would happen if one or both of you wanted to stop while having sex?  Y___  N___

NOTE: Whether you're having sex for the first time ever or for the first time with your current partner, you both may have the same or different expectations.  It's important to talk about things to reduce any disappointment or regret.
