Reducing Stress
November is the blustery month of beautiful sunsets in Kingston! It's time to find a comfortable, familiar place to call your "study space" ...away from distractions like Facebook, friends, and food:-) Now is the perfect opportunity to catch up after midterms. Some people do this by doing regular term work during the day, and spending an hour or two a night catching up on heavy courses.
We welcome a new Learning Strategies consultant to the Learning Commons for November, Robin Cameron. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, Robin will help you improve your skills while the other consultants are still available each weekday afternoon. More hours, more service, better for you!
If you are interested in attending something on ourWorkshop Schedulebut are on the waiting list, please come as there usually are vacancies.
The exam study strategies modulePreparing for and Writing Examsmay be just what you need to help you review your existing study methods and plan for finals. Check it out.
Tip of the Month: Think long-term memory!
Reviewing your lecture notes after class moves material into your long-term memory, where it is stored and more easily retrieved come exam time.

NEW! Supported Learning Groups(SLGs) for BIO 102
Want a study group but don’t know how to find one? Come take advantage of a new service offered by the Learning Strategies Development in the Learning Commons of Stauffer!
Why do we offer this program?
First year class size can be daunting. You rarely end up sitting next to the same person twice, and not everyone comes to Queen’s with friends in the same program that they are in. How do you go about finding the other people in your class who want a study group? You can’t ask them all…so we’ve developed a way to get in contact with other people in your class in a way that you can be confident that they are looking for the same thing that you are.
Where is it?
Just inside Room 143, the LSD office, in Stauffer Library, you can find a binder filled with sign-up sheets for all sorts of different first year classes.
How does it work?
Simply put your name and email address down on the sheet for your class if you are interested in finding other people who want to start a study group. Then, come check back on the sheet a week or so later, and see who else has signed up. Copy down the contact info, then drop an email their way to arrange a time and place to meet up that suits all of your schedules, or wait for an email to come to you!
