The Supported Learning Groups (SLG) program provides academic support to students enrolled in historically challenging first-year courses at Queen’s.
Based on the internationally recognized Supplemental Instruction (SI) model, these peer-facilitated study and review sessions are regularly scheduled, out of class, voluntary, and anonymous. Supported Learning Groups are held weekly in campus residences and are facilitated by upper-year peers; they allow students to engage with each other and with course material in a collaborative and welcoming environment.
Studies at the University of Guelph and other Canadian universities indicate that students who attend Supported Learning Groups achieve higher overall mean grades and feel more confident in their academic abilities than their peers who study alone.
For the 2009-2010 academic year, Supported Learning Groups are offered to students enrolled in PSYC 100 and BIOL 102*/103* at Queen’s University.
